A seventh-generation Texan, David was born in Lubbock, grew up in Dallas, spent his weekends East Texas, and has lived in Longview with his wife, Susan, and seven children since 2000. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, David is the President and CEO of Avinger Timber LLC and manages Simpson Publishing Company. In addition to his business experience, he served several terms as the Mayor of the City of Avinger, Texas from 1993 to 1998. Defeating a seven-term incumbent, David was first elected to the Texas State House in 2010 and he continues to represent District 7 today.
David is a firm believer in the sovereignty of Texas as a free and independent state. He believes in the enforcement of the 10th Amendment and works to fight the growing federal government and ensure that Texas has autonomy over its own affairs. A defender of individual liberty and free markets, David believes in protecting the private property of Texans from coercive and abusive eminent domain proceedings. A proponent of zero-based budgeting and tax reduction, he fights for economic growth, fiscal responsibility, and helping Texans keep what they earn.
In addition to being endorsed by Liberty For All Action Fund, David has also been endorsed by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, Texas Right to Life, Young Conservatives of Texas, Conservative Republicans of Texas, the Texas Homeschool Coalition, and the National Federation of Independent Business.
